Paper #2

For this paper I would like to write about the essays we've read and how they relate to teaching. We could pick two(three?) or more essays and discuss what we would do, after having read the essays, in order to be effective English teachers. That way we could incorporate examples from each essay without writing about what the essay means again. The topic we write about is then very open. We could discuss how we would try to filter the B.S. out of our students writing, or try to effectively incorporate ebonics and standard english into a classroom setting, or even write about the need for less impromptus on Heart of Darkness and more impromptus on students interests. I think this allows us, as students, to write about our interests and pull the meaningful bits and pieces out of each essay; we can talk about what really stuck with us and why it's important. Also, we could potentially incorporate multiple topics if we feel like the are related. I would be interested to see what my classmates write about.

  1. Love the impromptus on Heart of Darkness. ;) How about, though, we design it more broadly so that writers could use two or three course texts to reflect on how their future teaching in any field and at any grade level (and not just an English class, although if English is the writer's future area of specialty, then s/he could write about teaching in English for that paper).
