Paper #2 Thoughtssssss

Well. I suppose I am not sure what all is coming up in terms of reading material, I haven't read Mori or Abinader yet. However, I have clearly been quite absorbed in the Gee, Delpit, and Rodriguez articles and could write a paper about any of those connections enthusiastically. I would like to write about the cultural differences in disposition towards school and schooling and how it demonstrates Gee's notion (made real through the example of Rodriguez) that it is a difficult process for a student to acquire the dominant discourse without abnegating their sense of identity with the home culture and the primary discourse.

  1. I like enthusiasm re: writing! ;) And I think a prompt asking writers to reflect on cultural differences in disposition toward school and schooling would be a promising line of inquiry (and Mori and Abinader will give us concrete examples of how cultural differences can play out within and in response to certain kinds of education).
